1. IN THE BOX (IN ORDER OF WHAT TO EAT FIRST):

Pea Shoots - Pea shoots are the leaves and tendrils of pea plants. Place them inside a brown paper bag, or wrap them with paper towel, and place in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator. They should last 2 to 3 days.

Spinach - Store in the bag, unwashed, in the crisper. Take out what you plan on using and wash as you go. Will last several days.

Red Frills Mizuna - Mizuna will keep in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Rinse and dry the leaves before refrigerating. Wrap them in a paper towel and store them in a plastic bag.

Mint - Trim the ends and place mint in a glass containing about 1 inch of water; then cover with a loose-fitting plastic bag and leave at room temp. Replace the water whenever it gets cloudy. Should keep for about a week.

Lettuce - Keep damp in an airtight container in the fridge. Keeps for one week.

Red Russian Kale - Refrigerate in a plastic bag, do not wash until ready to use. May keep for up to a week.

Savoy Cabbage - Wrap cabbage in plastic wrap and keep it chilled in the refrigerator. An alternative to plastic would be placing it in a tightly-locking container that limits air flow. Properly stored, cabbage should last about a week. 

Green Garlic - It is such a delight to have this back in our harvest shares. My favorite way to enjoy is to stir fry the chopped garlic in a skillet with some olive oil. Then stir in eggs for a delicious green garlic scrambled eggs. Store in the crisper. Will last at least a week.

Lemons - This versatile fruit adds a great touch to winter greens and salads. It will store longer in crisper of fridge, but if you are going to use it within a week it can be stored on the counter.

Navel Oranges - Keep in a dish on your counter or table. Lasts one week. The oranges also keep well in the fridge. Peel and enjoy!

Onions - Store in a container in the crisper. Will last a couple of weeks.

Fuji Apples (Hidden Star Orchards) - Apples last much longer if they are placed loosely in the bin of your refrigerator. Wrapping them in brown paper from grocery sacks will also help to keep in the moisture of the apple. Keep apples slightly apart from each other. Lasts up to 2 months.

3 TB Butter; plus some for frying

4 TB All-Purpose Flour

1/3 cup Cream

Freshly Grated Nutmeg

White Pepper, to taste

2 TB Parmesan Cheese, plus a bit extra for the top

Bread Crumbs

1 lb Petrale Sole

All Purpose Flour for Sole

Shopping list for: Pasta With Pea Shoots

1 large clove of Garlic or use the fresh Spring Garlic from the box

3 TB Butter or Olive Oil, or a mixture

1/2 lb Bow-Tie Pasta

4 oz Cremini Mushrooms, sliced

1 oz Prosciutto, chopped

3 TB freshly grated Parmesan Cheese, plus additional for the table

Shopping list for: Kale and Quinoa Pilaf

1 cup Quinoa

1 Meyer Lemon, zested and juiced or the Lemon from your box

2 Scallions, minced or one of the smaller Spring Onions from this week's share

1 TB toasted Walnut Oil

3 TB toasted Pine Nuts

1/4 cup crumbled Goat Cheese

Shopping list for all recipes:

6 TB Butter; plus some for frying

4 TB All-Purpose Flour; plus some for the Sole

1/3 cup Cream
