Roberto has spent most of the past week using his flail mower to chop up crop residues and tidy up around the edges of the farm. We were also able to cultivate the peas and some other crops to take out weed seedlings.
We bought this 7 foot wide flail mower in 1995 for $5,500. It was our first big purchase after the first tractor. We had seen other farmers buy fairly cheap models which only lasted a couple of years. We decided to go with the industrial strength one which cost twice as much. It weighs over 2,000lbs , all steel and has proved its worth still going strong 15 years later. We change the blades every year, keep it greased and oiled. Last year was the first time we had to replace bearings. A hard working farm toy that has justified us spending extra to buy the best there was.
