We planted the crop for next year at the beginning of September. The plants are doing well. We are hoping to have lots of fresh berries for our picking days next May. Our experiments in planting at the beginning of November are over and we have gone back to the tried and true method. There are some flowers which may or may not produce fruit. There will be so few we will not put them in the box. As the root system is shallow at this stage of growth the flavor will not be as good as we would like. I know waiting until May is torture but it will be all worth while when you pick a sun ripened and warmed fruit one Sunday afternoon on the farm.
The straw keeps the weeds at bay between the rows and makes picking a more pleasant task.
