Last Thursday I borrowed a small 'plot' combine harvester from Tim at Riverdog Farm. It cuts a narrow swath, a little too narrow for our planted beds so that we missed one of the 12 lines on each bed. The purpose of the exercise was to see if we could grow grains using our own vegetable planting equipment and then find something to harvest it.
It harvested the crop but with a great deal of chaff. I am sure if we could find the manual we could learn how to make adjustments and do a better job. It certainly did harvest all the grain and this is exactly the kind of scale we need for our intended 10 acre grain CSA.
Next we have to harvest one acre of Farro/Emmer.
I hope to put a video on Youtube soon.
