Chicken Food

P3130051
We have four acres of cover crop planted which we trimmed to just five inches high. This is the height the chickens like to eat it. In the next few days we hope to set up the fencing and move the chickens on to this field. They will stay here for about three weeks happily fertilizing the soil. We will then be able to move them onto their summer alfalfa pasture. This field will be planted to corn for cornmeal and popcorn production. This is a hungry crop so they will need all the chicken shit they can get.
The cover crop is a soil builder mix with some volunteer wheat from last years crop also. It could have grown for another couple of weeks but the chickens would not have enough time to eat it down before the corn needs to be planted.

Roberto mowed the perimeter close to the ground so that we can set up the electric fencing.
