This is our new toy on the farm this year. The burners heat the weeds enough so that the cell walls burst and the plants die. We are not trying to incinerate the weeds, that would be very waste full of valuable propane. It will take us a few passes over the next few weeks to get the weeds under control after that about four passes per year should suffice. Each pass uses about 7 gallons of propane per acre.
These weeds could be removed by hoeing or a weed whacker but we have more important work for Trinidad who normally does that this year. He will spend a great deal of time pruning and tying the vines to the wires.
I hope to have a video of the flamer working soon. Go to youtube and search for 'Eatwell Farm'.
