Cherry trees love to grow skyward. Unfortunately
branches that grow vertically do not develop many fruit buds. We rely on the
fruit bud for next years flowers and fruit. To ‘pursuade’ the tree to make more
fruit buds we have to bend the branches to a more horizontal position. The best
way we have found to do this is to hang some Dobbies on the branch for up to
one week. Once the branch is set in the position we want we take away the
dobbie and use it on another branch.
