P6140028The harvest of our forty acres of wheat finished mid morning on June 14th 2008. About 15 tons would not fit in our bins on the farm so a trailer came to take it to Colusa Milling. At the mill the wheat will be cleaned and bagged. We will then sell this for flour. It can be used for bread if the protein is 13% or greater. Otherwise it will be used as pastry or pasta flour.
The next job in the field is to cut and windrow the straw. it will then be baled. We will use most of the straw on the farm. the field will then be cultivated and planted to kidney beans. The beans will be harvested dry and used as a protein source for the chickens.
Matt Cooley and his harvest crew are discussing which field to harvest next. Our field was just a small one for them.
