We are now proud parents of 900 chicks that hatched overnight at a hatchery in Davis just seven miles away. We will be keeping 550 of the chicks for our farm, 250 are going to Riverdog Farm and 100 to the local feed store.
The breed is called 'Production Red'. It is the same one that goes into the cage free houses. We have found that these bird love the outdoor pasture living here at Eatwell Farm. They lay well and do well in the heat of the summer and during the cold of the winter. They will start laying eggs in 18 to 20 weeks. More pictures later.
