Wally from Sonomaroma is our distiller. We take him lavender, Rose geranium, Lemon Verbena, Lemon Balm and Thyme to distill. We sell the oils and the hydrosols that are produced by the still mainly to organic cosmetic companies but also at the market and online. The flowering herbs are placed in a stainless steel container into which steam is injected. The steam liberates the oil from the plants. Some plants produce very little oil such as Rose Geranium which gives us about 3 ounces of essential oil for every 200 lb of plant. But what an oil! It is used by bakers and chocolate makers to flavor their products.
