Harvesting Cabbage

IMG_7871.JPG Young Jose in the foreground is in charge of irrigation so this week, after a little rain, he is getting a break and cutting cabbage with Jose and Leonardo. This green cabbage is fairly uniform in size but the Savoy variety to the right has about 30% that are way oversized for your boxes. The best place for these will be the food bank in Sacramento where they can cut them up for distribution or go to a soup kitchen. The fertility from the pasture and the chickens is still amazingly strong considering that this is the fifth crop on the beds since the girls left in 2012. Just proving organic farming done right could feed the world without excessive population growth.
