Beds of Wonderful Lettuce
These beds were sown at the end of January. They went into barely cultivated soil and germinated very well. We sow twelve rows to a bed and cultivate them with our brush hoe from Germany. We have not touched these beds with hand hoes. We will remove lettuces leaving one every foot or so to mature later. There are three varieties in this bed but we can sow beds with as many a six varieties as there are six seeder units. We sow many crops like this such as the spinach, chard, kales, turnips and radishes. The productivity is tremendous when combined with the fertility provided by the pasture and chickens.
