This week we will have visitors from Sacramento looking at our chickens. We now fall under regulations for more frequent and thorough federal inspections that normally were reserved for farms with more than 50,000 layers. By September we will have 3,400 layers, and the new cut off point is 3,000. I have already spoken with the inspectors, and they admit that the rules are written for confined egg factories, not pasture-raised birds like ours. So they are coming to see how we can comply under the different circumstances of our production. I am hopeful that we will have a productive meeting.
