I hate to brag, but I do think we grow some pretty amazing carrots. Most carrots are grown in very sandy soils, so they have very little flavor. Our soil is a silty clay loam that imparts flavor, but getting consistent germination of the carrot seed is quite difficult. We do not use seed coated with chemicals to protect the seed as it germinates. Our seed has to fend for itself. We have been using a variety called Hercules, which is known for germinating in difficult conditions. Carrots are easy to grow in sandy soils, but they taste better if grown in soil like ours. We hope you enjoy this taste-of-spring treat in your box this week!
