We are hoping to plant our first tomatoes this week. A few weeks ago we prepared the beds and covered them with woven plastic. We will cut holes and hand-plant them in a few days if the weather permits. To protect them from frost Kiki is picking up some woven fabric from Peaceful Valley Farm Supply in Grass Valley. This is the same stuff that diapers are made from. It lets through 90% of the light and gives us 5 degrees of frost protection. Full Belly Farm has used this for several years now with very good results. Their tomatoes have consistently produced several weeks before ours.
