We have chicks coming in mid-March that will be our main egg producers next winter. They need a very clean house in which to brood. In order to prepare a house for them, we pressure wash it, make any needed repairs, and repaint the inside. By taking these steps, we can prevent the spread of disease from the older birds to the new chicks. The chickens that will remain in the main flock are the Red Stars and the Black Stars. The rest will be made into chicken stock, which is currently selling very well at the market. However, we have yet to figure out a way to deliver this frozen product to you with your box. The new flock will be California Whites, which have enjoyed our climate and produced well for us in the past. When you visit the farm for our events later this year, you will have a chance to see them running around in the pasture!
