DSCF0064.JPG Just giving everyone who loves the eggs a heads up about organic wheat prices. Last year at this time I was paying $260 per ton (24 ton truckload). In August I paid $400 per ton and I am quoted at $450 for the next load. This is crazy as it considerably adds to our expenses for the eggs. Yes it does encourage farmers to convert to organic when the price is high but it does mess with our pricing.

The wheat is soaked overnight in whey from Cow Girl Creamery and it constitutes about 50% of the feed for the girls. Over the next few weeks I will crunch the numbers on the eggs again but it does look like the eggs will have to go up in price. Heads Up.
