Picking Citrus ahead of the cold weather

Snow sounds fun but ask our citrus trees and I am sure you will get another answer. Jose and the crew are out picking tangelos on the last row at this very moment. We picked tangerines for next weeks box, grapefruits, navels and the seville oranges. These are now in the cold store, snug at 40F. I hate to admit it but citrus is a marginal crop here on the farm. It does cost us more to produce them that what their value is. Obviously I would be responsible if I too many crops like this. There are twenty families that depend on Eatwell Farm for their livelihoods. I suppose I do enjoy having the oranges etc on the farm. For me they are an exotic crop coming from England where they are all imported from Spain, picked under ripe and taste like.... You get the point.

Stay warm...
