P9170018.JPG We are now preparing beds to sow for next years chicken pasture. These beds here grew wheat which was harvested in July. The combine did not pick up all the wheat and we harvested late so some heads shattered and the seeds fell to the ground. Our first job here is to cultivate and then irrigate, a couple of times. This stimulates the wheat to grow. We can then cultivate it one more time and sow the pasture. In this way we get only pasture germinating and not wheat and pasture. This technique is called a weed strike.
