Gopher snakes play an important role in keeping our rodent populations under control. We also have an owl box which is used every spring. The alternative would be to poison the gophers and the environment. So we encourage snakes though we rarely see them up this close. This young snake was hurt by a passing pick up truck. It is small and was not seen by the driver.
