1 loaf Pugliesse, sourdough or French Bread5 eggs 1/3 c. milk 5 gratings of fresh nutmeg ¼ tsp. salt 2 tsp. vanilla cinnamon butter strawberries maple syrup

Cut the bread into 12 slices.  Heat the griddle to medium.  In a bowl mix up the eggs, milk, nutmeg, salt and vanilla.  Put the bread in the egg mixture and sort of squeeze it a little to get the eggs soaked in.  Put a heap of butter or bacon fat on the griddle and cook the French toast until it is crispy and dark brown on the edges.  After you flip them shake cinnamon on top.  Serve with warm maple syrup and lots of cut up strawberries.  Your family will swear their undying devotion.
