Vineyard work...Amazing cover crop and pruning.
We finally got into the vineyard to prune our vines this last week. The weather has made work on the farm a little difficult to say the least this spring. Ricardo and Jaime worked down each row pruning the shoots to direct the growth to where we wanted it to grow, only the wires.
Roberto took care of the amazing cover crop between the vines today. These are table grapes that need a great deal of nutrition to grow succulent grapes unlike their wine cousins which almost have to be starved to produce a quality crop.
The cover crop was as high as the support wires in places. Next week when the soil is a little drier Roberto will disk in the cover crop to release the nutrients to the young vines. We will use a weed whacker to control the growth between the vines.
