Finally we have found a carrot variety that will germinate well, if not perfectly, in our soil. We grow some of the best carrots, I know I am biased, but only when we can get them to germinate. Our soil is a silt clay loam, rich and a little on the heavy side. Carrots like a sandy soil. I had almost given up on carrots again when John Bauer, our seedsman, said try this one from Johnnys Selected Seeds.

These were sown in November and we have more that were sown just a few weeks earlier that will be ready in a couple of weeks. They are on the short side but hey... it is the taste that matters around here.
