Really Fresh Lettuce

PB100010

This photo was taken at 6.45 this morning. The crew's first task of the day was to pick the lettuce we will delivering in our Wednesday Eatwell Boxes. The lettuce for Thursdays boxes will be picked at the same time tomorrow.

We sow twelve rows of lettuce with six varieties so as we pick you automatically get a mix. The first pick of any bed is to thin the crop. The seed is sown less than an inch apart. We remove all the lettuce leaving a space of about six inches between the remaining lettuce. Later we have nice size heads that we can thin to twelve inches apart to give us full size heads later.

The next crop the crew will move onto is the Bok Choy which we treat exactly the same way.
