There is an old a farmers saying that 'the best fertilizer is a farmers foot print'. meaning that you really have to walk your farm checking in on the crops, soil and animals as much as you can.
Jose and I make it a point to walk the farm together whenever we can. Last Friday we were checking on what crops we had ready to pick for this weeks box. We also wanted to plant the garlic crop on Saturday but had to make sure that we had germinated all the wheat seed leftover from harvest. When the garlic grows we do want have to weed wheat 'weeds' from amongst the crop. We dug into the top few inches and found many wheat seedlings germinating. Roberto then came in with his tractor to culivate the beds, cleaning away the weeds and making nice fresh beds to plant the garlic into.
