Dry Field corn should be planted by Mid May and it needs to be at least a high as your knee by the 4th July. Ours was planted at the end of May and as you can see we made it, Jose is standing by the popcorn planting, the field corn is much taller. The harvest will be late in October but we will make a crop. the fertility is good as we grew a cover crop over the winter followed by the chickens which ate the cover crop and fertilized the fields with their 'droppings'. (My mother gets upset when I say Chicken Shit).
In the photo above Ricardo and Marcos are checking the irrigation sprinklers as they move down the field. The new sprinklers are much easier to remove and clean. We use Nelson 'Wind fighters' for our irrigation now.
