Robert works for the Solano Irrigation District. He is the water tender for the canal that runs in front of the farm. From April to October this is where we get the majority of our water. The water arrives here by gravity from Lake Berryessa. It is then pumped into our irrigation system where it travels by gravity to our vegetable oil powered booster pump. We then use it for drip and sprinkler irrigation. Our orchard is being converted from flood to sprinkler irrigation. We started this years pumping from the canal last Monday. The water, 900 gallons per minute, arrives 24 hours per day so we have to be ready to use it. At the peak of use in the summer we are running water 4 days and nights per week.
