Last week we harvest the first vegetables from our new field to the east of the farm. This is now in its second year converting to organic. This crop of arugula received  5 cubic yards of compost and 1 ton of lime per acre in September. Just before planting in November the field also go our regular 10 cubic yards of compost application per acre. It takes time to build an organic soil. This field has a head start as it has been in Alfalfa for the four years before we took it over. This is why the vegetables and the previous wheat crop are so good.
