Strawberry Summer Harvest
It is the middle of July and in all of the past ten years that we have been growing strawberries the plants would be fried by now. The general wisdom is that it is too hot for them at this time of the year. This year we have had a very hot spell but the plants are still alive and producing a crop. The only difference this year is that we have not had any days when it has been 100F and 30mph winds. So I take from this that the wind is the real damaging factor, combined with the heat. For next years crop I will investigate how we can protect it from the wind. This year we will just enjoy the berries as a gift.
