Strawberry Picking Keeps on Going... For Now.

P1010007The cooler weather is helping the strawberry crop last longer. Once we get 100F days and some wind the plants cannot take up enough water to survive. In the meantime enjoy the berries.
I have already ordered the plants for next years crop. They will be ready for us to plant at the end of July. We have begun preparing the beds for them. Once the beds are good enough to plant into we lay the drip tape down the middle of the bed and turn it on. After we have made sure everything is working well we lay a thin film of black plastic over the bed to keep the weeds from growing. The plastic is then held down by straw that we lay between the beds. The straw keeps the plastic in place and makes for easier and cleaner picking next spring.
