For the past couple of months, I (Molly, the CSA manager) have been working on a project with a couple of amazing folks in San Francisco. We're calling it "Life Ingredients," and it's designed to provide those experiencing cancer, as well as their caretakers and loved ones, with access tolocal and sustainable foods by means of educational tours and classes at Bay Area farmer's markets. We hope to facilitate creating connections between individuals and a sense of comfort and familiarity with local markets and produce. One of the barriers to many people when faced with a farmer's market is not knowing where to begin or how to use the market to its fullest.
We are designing free, educational tours of select farmer's markets in San Francisco and San Rafael. These tours will be supplemented by nutrition information from a Registered Dietician and simple cooking classes with experienced chefs. We are currently trying to drum up interest. Our first tour is scheduled for August 23rd, at the Stonestown Farmer's Market. The second scheduled tour will occur September 13th at the Marin Civic Center Farmer's Market in San Rafael.
