Thinning Winter Squash

P7060033
In the height of the summer it seems a little odd to be talking about winter but with most of the summer crops planted our thoughts here on the farm are directed towards the cooler months of the year. We have planted many different squash varieties for your Eatwell Box this year.
We plant a seed every foot in the row and thin to one plant every two feet. You can give squash much more room but then you end up with a monster squash which are difficult to use and do not fit in your box.
Once we have finished hoeing and thinning the crop Ricardo will put back the drip lines and give the crop a good drink. We hope to harvest in the later half of September when we will also be having our first ever pumpkin day for members of the farm. The crop will be stored in large bulk bins for your fall and winter boxes.
