Please Come and Get Your Chicks!

P6030005
Last Wednesday morning I got an expected call at 6.45 am from the Dixon Post Office, not quite a wake up call as we start work on the farm at 6am. They hatched on Monday morning and were immediately packed into the boxes of 100 each and sent to us Priority Mail. We were ready for them on the farm. Six of us took each chick out and gave it its first drink. This jump starts their metabolism and they start eating and drinking. They have had nothing to eat or drink, apart from what was in the egg, since they hatched.
These chickens will be the mainstay of egg production during this coming winter. They will start laying in October when our older chickens production tails off. We will have more chicks arriving in September.
