Keep your basil in a plastic bag in the fridge. If you can’t use it all this week, we suggest making pesto and freezing it for later.

Arugula or a Melon: Today you will receive either arugula or a melon. This popular Italian green packs a slight bite with nutty undertones. Try topping an arugula salad with sliced strawberries, walnuts, feta cheese, and balsamic vinaigrette for a mouth-watering treat. Store in plastic bag in fridge, rinse, and dry before eating. The melons are juicy and fragile and should also be stored in the fridge and eaten soon.

Roma or Shady Lady Tomatoes: The Shady Lady  tomatoes are great slicing varieties with a lot of vine-ripe flavor, and the Romas are a tasty paste tomato that is great for sauce! Always store tomatoes on the counter “belly button” down. Wash before eating and enjoy!

Romaine Lettuce: Enjoy these fresh greens for salads and sandwiches! Store in plastic bag in fridge and wash well before consuming.

Tatsoi: We hope you enjoy this first-of-the-season mustard green with its creamy texture and subtle flavor. It is similar to bok choy and can be slightly sautéed or used in soups.  Store in plastic bag in the fridge and wash well before consuming.

Turnips: This ancient veggie is one of the earliest to be cultivated and was a staple before the potato. It is rich in fiber, calcium, and vitamins A and C. These beauties can be eaten raw or steamed and have a deliciously buttery crunch. Remove the greens and store in separate plastic bags in fridge. Be sure to wash them before eating.

Hot Peppers: Warning – these chiles are hot! They will add a kick to curries, soups, and salsas. Wear gloves when slicing to avoid getting hot capsicum oil on your hands and remove seeds and membranes for less heat. Store in crisper and wash before eating. Sweet Hungarian Peppers: These peppers are sweet and versatile with an irresistible crunch. They are a great addition to salads and are perfect for stuffing. Store in crisper in fridge and wash before eating.

Eggplant: These are of the Black Beauty variety and have a wonderful taste and texture. They are deliciously sweet, but to draw out moisture or any bitterness, cut into slices and salt, then leave out for 15 minutes and pat dry before cooking. Store in fridge and wash before eating. Enjoy!

Zucchini: With a delicate flavor, these summer squash can be quickly sautéed or steamed with just a touch of oil and some fresh herbs. It also goes well shredded in a salad or baked into bread. Stores best in plastic bag in fridge and wash before eating.

Bianca di Maggio Onions: These Italian cipollini onions are very sweet and mild. They are excellent for roasting or caramelizing. Store them in a dry, cool place.
