Growing Chickpeas (Garbonzo Beans)
Jose and the crew are very keen for us to grow these peas on the farm. Last fall we planted 1/2 acre. They germinated very well so last week we had to go through and thin the plants in the row. A couple of years ago we planted them and some members got to eat them fresh out of the pod after a strawberry day. They are delicious green and fresh. That was the year we purchased our combine harvester but it arrived too late to harvest the dried chickpeas. They are time consuming to pick fresh so if you want some green make sure you come to a strawberry day on the farm.
