No Hoe Farm?
Jose and I pride ourselves on the fact that we rarely take the hoes out into the field. Our timing and accuracy of cultivations together with the specialty equipment that we have make this mostly unnecessary. I can say none of us like hoeing. It is a skilled job, but we all have more skilled work to do. The exceptions include garlic, onions, and leeks. We do not seem to be able to remove all the weeds in these crops so we have to go along and “clean up” once in each crop’s life.

What kind of hilling set up do you use for your leeks? A friend of mine has a purpose built 3 point rig-it has hilling discs for each line, with steel plates that keep the thrown dirt from getting in the tops of the leeks. It seems to work really well.
