Feeding our Wheat

P8260002 As of today 40% of the feed we are giving the chickens is our own wheat . The organic
feed we buy from Modesto Milling has been reformulated to take this into
account. The wheat is put into the feed buckets at the end of the day and then
filled with water. The overnight soaked grains are more palatable to the
chickens.

Typically the chickens can derive about 25% of their
food needs from the alfalfa pasture. This fall I hope to start planting more
pasture to try and provide better feed and less reliance on bought in feed and
our own grain.
